How to calculate the surface area of structured packing

The surface area calculation of structured packing should be combined with its geometric structure and laying parameters, and the specific methods are as follows:

塑料规整填料 plastic structured packing

Foundation area calculation

For regularly arranged fillers (e.g., corrugated plates, honeycomb structures), the surface area can be calculated directly from the geometry of a single filler. For example, if the packing is a long x wide rectangular corrugated plate, the surface area of a single piece can be expressed as:

Single surface area = length x width

(Units need to be unified, such as metric units).

Specific surface area correction

In practical applications, the corrugated or pore structure of structured fillers will significantly increase the effective specific surface area. For example, the specific surface area of corrugated plate packing can reach 200-500 m²/m³, which needs to be further calculated in combination with the bulk density (ρ) :

Total surface area = (packing volume × specific surface area)/packing density

Among them, the volume of Hengerwo chemical packing can be determined by tower diameter, packing layer height and other parameters.

Adjustment in actual engineering

The calculation results should take into account the wetting rate of the filler (actual contact area proportion), installation gap and operating conditions (such as liquid distribution uniformity). For example, if the wetting rate is less than 100%, the calculated value needs to be revised according to the actual wetting area.

Example:

Taking 1m×125mm (0.125m) corrugated plate packing as an example, the surface area of a single block is 1m×0.125m=0.125m². If the specific surface area is 300m²/m³ and the packing density is 600kg/m³, the total surface area can be estimated as:

Total surface area = (packing volume × 300) / 600

Further calculation should be made according to the height of specific packing layer and packing method.

In the actual design, it is recommended to refer to the technical parameters provided by the packing manufacturer (such as specific surface area, packing density) for accurate calculation.
